Restaurante Donjuan

Why we recommend Restaurante Donjuan

Donjuán sits just steps from Cartagena’s clock tower, tucked inside what appears to have been old bank. The open space and historic bones give it an unmistakable charm, while its spacious layout makes it a top pick for larger groups (with a reservation). The menu delivers on flavor without fuss—fresh local seafood, premium cuts, and well-balanced starters, all paired with a cocktail list that’s among the city’s best. It’s a great spot to settle in for a relaxed, satisfying dinner right in the heart of the old city.

A note for first-timers: the block near the clock tower can feel a bit more hectic, especially given its border with Matuna. If you want an easier entrance, we’d recommend approaching from Plaza de los Coches for a smoother arrival.

What We Love

  • Spacious interior, great for larger groups (with reservations)
  • Housed in a historic old-bank building with plenty of character
  • Excellent cocktail menu with balanced, classic options
  • Consistently tasty, well-executed seafood and meats

What to know

  • Location near the clock tower can feel a bit seedy and less polished, especially if you wind up crossing through the Matuna
  • Best to arrive via Plaza de los Coches for a smoother experience

About Our Recommendations

Cartagena isn’t just a destination for us—it’s where we call home. We love this city, and sharing that with others comes naturally. Friends always ask us for recommendations, so we put together this little guide—no gimmicks, no tourist traps, just the spots we genuinely love. It’s not a definitive list, just a few of our personal favorites here at Magno.
