FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Where can I buy Magno chocolate?
You can visit us in person at our two locations in Colombia: our Cartagena flagship in the Centro Histórico and our Medellín factory and shop. If you are in Colombia, you can also order online at magnochocolates.com.
Do you ship internationally or to the US?
Not at the moment. Because of US import regulations, we have paused international shipping. We hope to offer it again in the future, and we may begin shipping coffee before chocolate. The best way to hear about it first is to sign up for our newsletter. Within Colombia, you can order online anytime at magnochocolates.com.
What chocolate experiences do you offer?
We offer guided chocolate tasting experiences at our Cartagena flagship, including coffee and chocolate tastings, craft beer and chocolate pairings, exotic fruit tastings, and hands-on chocolate bar painting. Each one is designed to walk you through fine-flavor Colombian cacao in a way you can taste, not just hear about.
How do I book an experience?
Visit the experience page for the tasting you are interested in and fill out the booking form there, or message us directly on WhatsApp at +57 302 295 3764. Guided experiences are by reservation and tend to fill up in high season, so we recommend booking ahead.
What makes your tasting experiences different?
Our experiences are not a quick sample. They are a guided journey through how fine chocolate is actually made. In Cartagena, our on-site lab lets us take you through the full bean-to-bar process, tasting roasted nibs, cacao mass, and finished chocolate side by side, so you understand what fine-flavor Colombian cacao really is. Our founder, Naty Nicholls, a biochemical engineer turned chocolatier, developed the tasting structure alongside a historian from the University of Cartagena, so the science and the history come together. Where are Magno chocolates made?
All Magno chocolate is made in Colombia from fully traceable, fine-flavor Colombian cacao, crafted from scratch with natural local ingredients and nothing artificial. The majority is produced in our Medellín facility, where we grind and make everything in-house. In Cartagena, our flagship houses a small bean-to-bar lab where we produce single-estate, single-varietal limited editions, and where our tasting experiences walk you through the full process from raw bean to finished bar.
What is fine flavor cacao?
Fine flavor cacao, also called fino de aroma, is the exceptional cacao we use in all of our chocolates. It is prized for its complex sensory profile and its fruity, floral, nutty, and spicy notes, and it makes up only a small share of the world's cacao production. We break down the difference between bulk and fine-flavor cacao in this article.
Does Colombia have good chocolate?
It has some of the most exciting cacao in the Americas. Colombia's range of microclimates and its native, fine-flavor cacao produce chocolate with remarkable depth and character, much of it still little known outside the country. We lay out what makes Colombian cacao so special here, and dig into how it stacks up against the chocolate the world usually celebrates here.
What makes Cartagena such a special place for chocolate?
More than most people realize. Some of the earliest evidence of human cacao use outside the Amazon was found about thirty minutes from Cartagena, and the city was one of the first ports to ship Colombian cacao to Europe. We tell the full 5,000-year story in A Chocolate Lover's Guide to Cartagena's Walled City.
How long do chocolates last, and how should they be stored?
Because our chocolates contain no preservatives, they are best enjoyed within the first week. To extend their life, store them in the refrigerator and enjoy within about 15 days. If you refrigerate them, keep them away from strong odors such as onion, garlic, and vinegar, since chocolate easily absorbs surrounding aromas and they can alter the taste.
