Román sits right next to Townhouse Hotel on Plaza Fernández de Madrid, one of the more quietly beautiful plazas in the Walled City. The interior is spectacular: high ceilings, a well-considered space that feels elegant without being stuffy. The menu is Mediterranean-Caribbean fusion with a Greek sensibility, and it offers something genuinely rare in Cartagena: lighter, fresher options that are a welcome departure from the heavier fried food the city is known for. The Margarita salad, Roman chicken, lamb meatballs, and jasmine rice are all excellent. The crème brûlée is the dessert. The sharing concept works well for groups. Reservations recommended.
